Aquatic Facility Upgrade Plans
Casuarina Public Pool
The masterplan for the Casuarina Aquatic Centre calls for the facility to be developed as the Northern Territory 's premiere aquatic competition venue. It recommends a 50 metre FINA compliant pool, 25 metre warm down pool, a learn-to-swim area, toddlers' water play faciltiies and swimming club facilities. The design will also provide for water polo and diving and provides scope to include new casual food and beverage facilities.
Parap Public Pool
Prior to developing a Master Plan for the Parap Aquatic Centre, Council will examine the appropriateness of relocating this facility to Lake Alexander . Irrespective of location, it is envisaged the Parap Aquatic Centre will be recognised for its feeling of fun, entertainment, excitement, youth attractions and general family appeal. It will consist of a feature pool (eg wave, wave rider, water slide), general 50 metre pool, skate park, learn-to-swim area, toddlers' water play facilities and swimming club facilities. The opportunity to link Parap Aquatic Centre with neighbouring tennis courts and expand into the adjacent land to the east will also be taken into account. Further, the potential for developing health and fitness/ gymnasium facility will be looked at.
Nightcliff Public Pool
Nightcliff Aquatic Centre will be developed to complement its unique location and coastal views. It is a requirement that this facility blends with its natural location situated on cliffs overlooking the Timor Sea . It offers an opportunity for 'subtle' or boutique aquatic and outdoor dining facilities with an emphasis on relaxed, lifestyle, empathy with its environment, casual outdoor dining. It will include a 25 metre semi enclosed swimming pool and alfresco dining areas with commercial kitchen. The plant room will be relocated to open up the ocean views and increase the amenity of the area for both residents and visitors. The swimming club facilities will be retained on site and the design and operation of all the facilities will be in keeping with to the general amenity of the Nightcliff coastline, which will eventually also be developed. It has been suggested the Nightcliff venue could be a suitable site from which to operate a community hydrotherapy pool. The final master plan recommends that a free access water theme playground also be considered onsite in the future.
