I have a very proud and strong commitment to the Northern Territory, in particular, the City of Darwin.
Since arriving in Darwin in 1971, I have worked in the Real Estate industry and as a valuer for the Valuation Branch of the Australian Taxation Office which later became the Australian Valuation Office. I am currently a self employed private Valuer.
As part of my work as a valuer, and my commitment to raising professional standards in this area through education, I have given lectures and training courses in Darwin and South East Asia. This has enabled me to liaise, assist, network and form partnerships with various bodies throughout South East Asia.
I am a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute, and completed a Certificate of Indonesian Business Culture and Language, and a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training through Charles Darwin University.
After Cyclone Tracy I met my wife Maeve. We are married and had two children, Rebecca and Dean. We owned and managed two restaurants and a hair dressing business. Our children were raised in Darwin with Rebecca now living in Italy and Dean in Canada.
To keep fit I enjoy walking, bike riding, swimming and in particular I enjoy paddling with the Arafura Dragon Boat club to increase my skills and have fun with friends.
I have been actively involved in several volunteer organisations within the community and held positions on several committees including the Italian Club, the United Nations, NT Division, and NT Multi Cultural Education Coordinating Committee, the Sanderson Lions Club, the Property Committee of the NT Red Cross, the Australian Property Institute, the Asian and Australian Family Association, the Development Consent Authority, the Mall Revitalisation Advisory Committee, the Police Ethnic Advisory Group, the Australia Day Council, and the YMCA.
Currently, I am involved with the Sister City Management Board, the Football Federation Australia (NT), the Community Benefit Fund, Gymnastics NT and the Council of the Ageing (COTA). I am also a Justice of the Peace.
My vision is for a greener Darwin, with the Darwin City Council partnering with the Northern Territory Government to make the beauty of this city a priority. I want to be part of a committee promoting Darwin as the gateway to Asia, by again partnering with the NT Government to coordinate a mutual business strategy with the Darwin CBD and the Waterfront development and by continuing to promote Darwin City Council’s Sister city programs.
I take this opportunity to thank the constituents of Waters Ward, for the confidence they have given me to represent them in Council and I look forward to the challenges in the next four years.
