Footpaths

Darwin City Council maintains more than 350 km of footpaths within the municipality. Each year, it sets priorities for footpath reconstruction work. Before work starts, a letter is sent to residents and relevant bodies corporate to inform them of the intended footpath program. Footpaths in residential areas are generally constructed on one side of the road only. People living on the opposite side are encouraged to remove their old footpath and take advantage of Council's Nature Strip Program to upgrade their verge.

Landowners may also seek to upgrade their driveway at the same time by contributing towards the cost, depending on the driveway condition at the time.
