NT Road Report
Darwin City Council maintains more than 400 km of municipal roads including associated infrastructure such as storm water drainage, footpaths and driveways.
Storm water drains play a particularly important role in a tropical climate, by the major exercise of wet season road maintenance to be continued by Council's Technical Services Department during the wet season.
Building and maintaining traffic calming measures such as roundabouts and speed humps, and maintenance of traffic lights at intersections and crossings are also part of Technical Services' role. Council aims to ensure optimum and consistent city traffic flows through well-planned planned arterial road developments. Upgrading and general improvement to intersections, roundabouts and other traffic devices are constantly under review and prioritised for capital works construction. Council has prepared Several major traffic use reports in recent years and these form the basis for future planning.
