Nightcliff Pool Lane Bookings
Nightcliff pool was closed on 21 September for a six week period to install a new underground energy efficient water filtration system.
The scope of work includes replacement of ageing pipework, improved water turnover rates and improvements to the storm water drainage around the pool deck.
The old pump house which has served the pool for a many years has reached the end of its effective life will be removed as part of the upgrade works. The results of the works will be improved energy efficiency and better views from the pool area across the Arafura Sea.
The pool was scheduled to re-open this week, but necessary unplanned additional repair works have caused some delays.
General Manager Infrastructure Luccio Cercarelli said it is unfortunate that the completion of the works have been delayed, although pool users will benefit from the improvements in the future.
“Nightcliff pool was first opened to the public in 1967 and parts of the infrastructure are nearly 50 years old. As the new upgrade works were progressing, other issues were uncovered which need to be resolved before the planned upgrade works can be completed,” Mr Cercarelli said.
The works are on track to be completed by the end of November 2014.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for staying patient as we work as hard as we can to complete the works,’ he added.
