Parks, gardens and reserves
Darwin has hundreds of parks and gardens threaded throughout the municipality and these are equally popular with residents and visitors. Council maintains over 600 hectares of parks, gardens and foreshores. East Point Reserve is probably the most well known reserve maintained by Council. It covers over 200 hectares, is rich in wartime history and native flora and includes Lake Alexander, which was built by Council in 1991 to provide stinger-free, safe, year-round swimming.
Darwin's parks are excellent venues for everything from family get-togethers and festivals to open air meetings, sunset functions and other corporate and community events.
