Membership is free for NT residents. Come in and join today.

Types of Membership

Full Member

Full membership is free for NT residents. You will have access to all of our collections to borrow including our online collections.

If you are under 16 years of age, your parent or guardian can sign up for you.

Join in person by visiting any of our Libraries with your photo ID and proof of current NT residential address to join.
OR
Join online and your library card will be sent to you in the mail. A Library staff member will email within three business days with your membership details.

Library membership application

Identification and proof of address we accept include:

  • Northern Territory Drivers Licence with your current address, OR
  • Other photo ID (e.g. Passport, Ochre card, Evidence of Age card) WITH an additional document showing your current address (e.g. bank statement, lease agreement, Health Care card, utility bill).
Online Access

Online access membership is free for NT residents. You will have access to our online collections only. This includes ebooks, eaudiobooks, digital magazines and online databases.
If you are under 16 years of age, your parent or guardian can sign up for you.

Join online and your membership details will be sent to you by email. A Library staff member will process your application within three business days.

Library membership application

Online access members can upgrade their membership to full access by presenting their photo ID and proof of NT residential address at any of our City of Darwin Library locations.

Visitors

Temporary membership is available to visitors to Darwin who do not have an NT residential address.
You can join at any of our library locations by presenting a photo ID. Identification we accept include:

  • Drivers Licence, Passport, Ochre card, Evidence of Age card.

A refundable deposit of $50, plus a $15 administrative fee applies for temporary membership.

Institutions

An institutional membership is available for NT institutions e.g. a creche or nursing home.
Two permanent employees of the institution, who are in positions of responsibility and who are willing to accept personal responsibility for the items borrowed in the name of the institution, must fill in and sign the application form.

Visit any of our Libraries with the application form and photo ID to join.

Conditions of Membership

I agree to:

  • respect the rights and security of staff and other library users
  • accept responsibility for all items borrowed on my card and to pay for replacement costs and processing fees for any items lost, stolen, or damaged
  • abide by City of Darwin Libraries' policies and conditions of use.
