City of Darwin is offering casual employment opportunities for up to 100 individuals as part of our Green Army Initiative to support our community during the COVID-19 event.

Individuals recruited to be part of the Green Army will be employed as general labourers to carry out a range of maintenance, greening and city beautification tasks across our parks and reserves, laneways, footpaths and other projects currently being undertaken by Council. An additional 3,500 trees have been purchased from local nurseries by City of Darwin for planting as part of the Green Army initiative.

The Green Army will run until the 30 June 2020.

Green Army recruits can expect to perform tasks such as:  

  • General cleaning and maintenance across the Municipality such as removal of debris and rubbish, removal of graffiti, leaf blower work, sweeping, cleaning,  weeding/ pruning and trimming plants
  • General landscaping including the preparation of soil for tree planting, digging, planting, mulching, raking, mixing and spraying fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides 
  • Utilising  and maintaining a range of hand tools and other labouring equipment 

Recruits will be expected to:

  • Ensure their personal health and safety, and that of others in the workplace
  • Work professionally, cooperatively and respectfully with other team members to accomplish joint tasks.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to working in various work locations throughout the municipality
  • Comply with any reasonable directions (such as safe work procedures, wearing personal protective equipment) given by management for health and safety purposes
