In the lead up to the Northern Territory Local Government elections, Council is hosting an information session for potential candidates wanting to learn more about how they can play a role in local government and the responsibilities of becoming an Elected Member.

Nomination information sessions – Wednesday 21 July 2021 commencing at 6.00pm at the Civic Centre

The information session will be held on Wednesday 21 July 2021 commencing at 6.00pm at the Civic Centre, Harry Chan Avenue Darwin.
Nominations open: Friday, 16 July and close Thursday, 5 August at 12:00 noon
Candidates must lodge a completed nomination form after the call for nominations (Friday, 16 July) and before the close of nominations at 12:00 noon on Thursday, 5 August 2021. The public declaration of nominations and draw for positions on the ballot paper takes place soon after nominations close.

Close of electoral roll: Tuesday, 27 July at 5:00 pm
The electoral roll closes at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, 27 July. Your electoral enrolment must be correct so you can vote for the candidates in your local government area. Find out how to enrol or update your electoral enrolment via the following link.
Early voting commences: Monday, 16 August
Early voting centres open from Monday, 16 August. A full list of locations will be available on the website closer to the election. Darwin Entertainment Centre and Casuarina Library
Postal Votes
You can apply for a postal vote and have the ballot papers sent to your nominated address. Applications for local government elections can be made within the 3-month period before Election Day. Therefore, applications for the 2021 election can be made from Friday, 28 May 2021.
Please note that registered general postal voters are automatically sent ballot papers and are not required to lodge a new application.
Election day: Saturday, 28 August
