A range of free activities on offer these School Holidays

City of Darwin Libraries and LAUNCH youth program are offering a range of free activities these school holidays, 30 September – 13 October – from indoor to active outdoor activities.

Libraries are offering activities for under 12’s and the City of Darwin LAUNCH team is offering a full program for young people 12-25 years.

Libraries have partnered with Northern Territory Emergency Services to offer free education ‘Be Aware – Prepare!’ to teach young Territorians how to prepare for flood, cyclone and storm emergencies these October School Holidays.

Children will learn how to develop a family emergency plan, keep a home emergency kit, what to do during extreme weather conditions, how to care for their pets and what shelter options are best during a storm or cyclone.

There are many more fun and free activities on offer at Karama, Casuarina, Nightcliff and Darwin libraries including  Upcycled Hats, Grandad’s Farm with Ricky Possum, Tech Zone, Lego Club, Steam Zone, Children’s Programs, Movies, Scavenger Hunt and Story Time.

LAUNCH Activities include Pet First Aid, Skate Night, Tech Zone, an AFL Clinic and a gaming tournament.

SOME ACTIVITY DETAILS

Geektacular Playhouse @ GeeCon (all ages)

All day activities and workshops including a cosplay exhibition, Tech Zone, VR goggle demos, LEGO creation station, badge making and more.
Darwin Convention Centre - Saturday 28 September, 10.00am – 9.00pm

Pet First Aid (Ages 14-25)

Learn more about caring for you furry best friends including bandaging, micro chipping and common illnesses in the Top End.

Skate Night (Ages 13+)

Head down to Jingili Skate park every second Wednesday until November for free music and skating. Shredders, spectators and newcomers all welcome!

Nintendo Tournament (Ages10+)

Come and test your gaming skills and win prizes! We will be playing Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers.

AFL Clinic (Ages 12-17)

Designed to teach beginners the basics and challenge those who have a passion for playing AFL the clinic is a great way to keep active this school holidays. Lunch and snacks will be provided, plus a water slide to cool down at the end of the day.

Tech Zone (All ages)

Come and try fun and emerging technologies, gadgets and gizmos at our interactive tech zone. You will find virtual reality googles, 3D printing, robots plus heaps more.
