Free Promotion Opportunity Offered to Darwin Businesses

Media Release
29 August 2019

City of Darwin is offering the opportunity for local businesses to promote their goods and services to the community and tourists for free, through their newly launched smart Information Kiosks.
The Information Kiosks have been installed at the Knuckney Street end of the Mall and at the top of Smith Street adjacent to the footbridge leading to the Waterfront.  They aim to provide locals and tourists alike with options for entertainment, dining, shopping, recreation and local events.

“Our aim is to activate our city and suburbs and the newly installed Information Kiosks support this initiative,” says Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis.

More than 300 Darwin businesses are already listed on the digital Kiosks and Lord Mayor Vatskalis is encouraging others to be part of the initiative.

“It’s rare for businesses to be offered an opportunity to advertise and promote themselves for free,” he said.

Businesses will be displayed by category and distance from the Kiosks with a thumbnail image included.  All listings are extracted from the Google Maps My Business Listing.

“I encourage business operators to go online and check their business is listed on Google and if not set up a Google My Business listing.”

Categories include Dining, Entertainment, Parks, Attractions, Beaches, Cafes, Hotels, Shopping and Events.

The Information Kiosks are another part of City of Darwin’s $10M Switching On Darwin project, which has seen the  introduction of smart technology across the city to activate the CBD and improve the accessibility and livability of our city.

Testing and commissioning is expected to be complete and the information kiosks ready for use by the end of August.
