Get Online Week – Seniors Can Get More Out of Life Online!

Media Release
14 October 2020

City of Darwin is encouraging Seniors in the community who have limited or no computer skills to sign up for free events during Get Online Week, from 19 – 25 October, 2020.

With more than 2.5M people across Australia currently not online and an estimated 4M having low digital skills, the free events being held in City of Darwin libraries provide an opportunity to gain valuable skills in a supported environment.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said that Covid-19 had demonstrated how important being connected is “I know many Seniors in our community have suffered during this time, they have felt isolated and often lonely due to the restrictions imposed.”

“What digital skills can do is open up a whole new world – being connected to family and friends is easy when you know how and there is the added benefit of learning a new skill.”

“You can even learn online banking, which takes all the hassle out of waiting in queues – it’s fantastic!”
