Night Series Basketball Tips Off

Media Release
02 November 2018

Launch’s Night Series Basketball tournament tips off tomorrow night at Casuarina Senior College. The series runs across four Saturday nights 3 – 24 November.

Night Series is a social inclusion basketball tournament for Darwin’s youth aged 12 to 17.

As well as basketball games and skills and drills, the players get a life skills workshop, a uniform, meal, transport home and a safe, welcoming place to be on Saturday nights.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis commended everyone involved in the program.

“Council has been running Saturday night basketball programs since 2015 and it continues to be a fantastic program. This season there are over forty players signed up and thirty volunteers across the four nights,” said the Lord Mayor.

“It shows what a great program this is that 70% of the volunteers have been involved in the tournament before. And this time around there are three volunteers who used to be in the program as players,” added the Lord Mayor.

“I love mentoring young people and mixing with the volunteer crew and players.” Night Series volunteer

“LAUNCH Night Series has given me the confidence to take on new roles, and taught me better people skills.” Night Series player

City of Darwin’s Launch Night Series has received funding from NT Public Health Network to support two tournaments.

The tournament is ready to go with all places for players filled but there are still opportunities for volunteers to get involved.
