State Square Underground Car Park

State Square Underground Car Park is an NT Government Project.

State Square underground car park aims to relocate all of the existing surface car parks underground, to allow further development of the State Square precinct, free up green space and reduce heat. The facility will house 450 car parks including public parking and have a dual role as a Cyclone Shelter with the ability to shelter 600 people.

By moving the existing car parking underground, more space will be created within the State Square precinct for landscaping, walkways, cycle paths, shade, cooling water features and relaxing/social areas.

The Northern Territory Government is committed to transforming Darwin’s CBD into a tropical, world-renowned destination, boosting tourism and enhancing Darwin’s liveability.

Construction of the car park is expected to commence in June and will take approximately 16 months to complete.

The Northern Territory Government is committed to revitalising the CBD, and will continue to work with the Australian Government on the Darwin City Deals.
