Better Suburbs Projects

Home / About Council / Transforming Darwin / Projects / Better Suburbs Projects

New exercise stations, suburban shopping village beautification, lighting upgrades and improved sporting infrastructure are among more than 35 community projects to improve the amenity of Darwin suburbs.

City of Darwin is investing $5 Million towards upgrading streetscapes and community infrastructure in our suburbs as part of Council’s commitment to achieving a vision of a “City of Colour”.  With works awarded to local contractors, these projects will also help stimulate the economy.

This commitment follows on from the $2.13 million already invested jointly by City of Darwin and the Northern Territory Government (NTG) in 2020, as part of the COVID-19 stimulus package.

The Better Suburbs Projects has been broken down into 25 projects with $750,000 allocated to each ward and another $2 Million for street beautification including works at Malak, Karama, and Parap shopping villages.

Some of the upgrades and improvements to be delivered under the Better Suburbs Projects include:

Waters Ward

Chan Ward

Lyons Ward

Richardson Ward
