Australia Day Awards

We commemorate each Australia Day with a special celebration for the community. This includes honouring the those who have done great things in our community with the Australia Day Awards.

Each Australia Day (January 26), City of Darwin hosts a Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony.

At the event, the Australia Day awards are announced for:

  • Darwin Citizen of the Year Award
  • Darwin Young Citizen of the Year Award - aged 29 years or under
  • Darwin Community Event of the Year Award

Eligibility requirements

The awards are there to recognise individuals and groups who have contributed above and beyond to the community.

  • Nominees for Young Citizen of the Year must be 29 years old or younger.
  • Nominees for Citizen of the Year, must 29 years old or older on 26 January 2017.
  • All nominees must be a resident of the Darwin municipality.

How to nominate 

Nominations open annually in October

Do you know anyone who has given outstanding service to the community? Or have you been involved in a specific community project which deserves recognition?

Nominate someone who you believe makes the City of Darwin a better place to live, through an ongoing contribution or an outstanding effort during the year.
