$2M Joint Small Projects

City of Darwin and the Northern Territory Government have joined in partnership to deliver the $2M Joint Small Projects Program. The project aims to improve the amenity, accessibility and useability of public spaces across 14 locations within the municipality.

The $2M budget is matched dollar to dollar by City of Darwin and the Northern Territory Government. It will fund 14 small projects across the municipality which have been identified by the community and their local Alderman and MLA representatives. 

All 14 projects are scheduled for completion 30 June 2020. As of April 2020, three projects have been completed.

Lakeside Dog Park (Located next to the Lakeside Community Garden)
Description The new Dog Park on Lakeside Drive field will comprise of a 1400 sqm perimeter fence with a fenced off area for smaller dogs. It will feature:  Natural play elements, mixed shaded tree species, irrigated turf and a water trough to cool down. Consultation has been completed.

Dates The project will be delivered in conjunction with current Lakeside Drive works and are expected to be completed August 2020.

Delivery This project will be delivered through sub-contractors with landscaping works done in-house

Concept & Design

Yanyula Park, Anula Upgrade
Description Increasing existing car parking space by an additional 24 spaces to accommodate sporting codes, replace rotting bollards, fix dust bowl - post 'Marcus' and landscaping to include shaded trees from shops to school.

Kailis Park, Wanguri - Playground Upgrade
Description Consultation was completed September 2019; New equipment has been ordered and will replace the existing playground. The new playground will see the installation of shading, softfall sand, a slide, climbing wall, spider net and a special memorial seat requested by the community.

Koolpinyah Park, Tiwi - Playground Upgrade
Description Previously Koolpinyah Playground consisted of one double swing. This upgrade will see the installation of multi-use equipment, a slide and shading.

Rapid Creek Foreshore - Toilet Block
Description New automated toilet block for public use that will include 2 booths (1 accessible booth), the areas surrounding will feature footpaths linked and ramps to access the facility.

Description Increase size of current basketball court to full size and landscaping to include tree planting.

Concept & Design

Jingili Accessible Toilet Block
Description To support the new accessible playground, this facility is the first of its kind in Darwin and will be fully equipped for all accessibilities. The new facility will be connected to existing pathways and will feature an inclusive change space. This project is being delivered alongside the Jingili Regional Playground.
