Animal Education

We are committed to striking the balance between pet ownership and the well-being of our community. We employ a full-time Animal Education Officer who attends to the Pet Care Help Line.

Expression of interest opportunity- Monthly Behavioural Canine Workshops

As part of Council ‘Great Pets Start with You’ campaign, Council are seeking to contract a dog training organisation to facilitate one monthly ‘anti-bark’ workshop and one monthly ‘dealing with nuisance behaviours’ workshop, to offer free to the community. The purpose of  the workshops is to provide an opportunity for dog owners to be introduced to dog training and education to effectively manage nuisance behaviours such as such barking, crying, aggression, disobedience and escaping.

Council may compulsorily require dog owners who have had a substantiated barking or nuisance behaviour complaint to attend a workshop/s.

What is required of the training organisation:

  • Provision of content, trainer and facilitation of training session.
  • Management of client bookings (Council can create link on our website for attendees to register).

What Council will provide

  • Promotion of your organisation as a part of the ‘Great Pets Start with You’ campaign through various sources including events, website and social media.
  • Training organisations fees and charges.
  • Animal Education Officer or Ranger attendance.
  • Training location.
  • Administration support.
  • Resources including; access to a projector, laptop, power etc.

Benefits of being involved:

  • A opportunity for your organisation to be part of a community program helping build Darwin’s proactive animal ownership environment.
  • Promotion of your organisation and workshops as a partner in the ‘Great Pets Start with You’ campaign.
  • Opportunity to engage with a broader audience and give people and their pets to connect with your business.

Dates and times for the workshops are flexible, however; we aim to provide one ‘anti-bark’ workshop and one ‘dealing with nuisance behaviours’ workshop per month, commencing by September 2019.

Please complete application form and return by Thursday the 29th of August C.O.B.
