Information

If you have had a loss of income due to the COVID-19 crisis and do not believe you can meet your upcoming rates payments, you can apply for assistance under City of Darwin’s Financial Hardship Support Policy.

For ratepayers of commercial properties, assistance may include:

  • For ratepayers who have paid their 2019-20 rates in full – a refund in part of rates paid for 2019-20; or
  • A waiver in part of rates owing for 2019-20 (with any excess rate waiver amount provided as a waiver in part for rates for 2020-21); or
  • A waiver in part of rates for 2020-21.

In addition, for all qualifying allotments, Council will grant a deferment of the obligation to pay rates declared for 2020-21 until 1 January 2021.
Eligibility for assistance will be demonstrated through the placement of the business on the Northern Territory Government’s Hardship Register.
A separate application form must be lodged for each property you are requesting assistance for.

Assistance Required

Will be one of the following:

  • For ratepayers who have paid their 2019-20 rates in full – a refund of 25% of rates levied for 2019-20; OR
  • For ratepayers that have rates owing for 2019-20, a waiver of the equivalent of 25% of rates levied for 2019-20 (with any excess rate waiver amount provided as a waiver in part for rates for 2020-21); OR
  • For ratepayers who have paid their 2019-20 rates in full - a waiver of the equivalent of 25% of rates levied for 2020-21.

In addition to the above options, City of Darwin will grant a deferment of the obligation to pay rates declared for 2020-21 until 1 January 2021.
