City of Darwin’s 2019/2020 Annual Report has received an eighth consecutive Gold Award from the Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA).
The ARAs were established in 1950 and recognise excellence in reporting. They are open to all organisations that produce an annual report, including all private sector, public sector and not-for-profit organisations in Australia, New Zealand and countries in the Asia-Pacific region and elsewhere.
Melissa Reiter, General Manager External Affairs and Government Relations said: “Every year Council aims to produce the best Annual Report that it can to report on Council’s work and deliverables for the community.
“Receiving a Gold Award for a consecutive eighth year is a fantastic achievement by City of Darwin and we were only three of Australia’s capital city Council’s to achieve a gold award alongside Brisbane and Melbourne.
“The ARAs provide an opportunity for organisations to benchmark their reports against world best practice and receive expert feedback and being awarded Gold at the ARAs is no mean feat.
“The Award demonstrates that Council is operating at a high level to deliver for our community and benchmark our reporting with some of Australia’s largest public and private organisations, including our best performing councils.”
Reporting methods are always changing and community awareness in governance continues to increase. The criteria by which annual reports are assessed is constantly reviewed and updated to meet changing business and community expectations and recommendations.
There are three types of Awards; the General Award, the Sustainability Reporting Award and the Special Awards. Winners are awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze. City of Darwin was the Gold Winner in the General Award in the 2019/20 Award category.
