Kerbside recycling collection delays – Lyons & Leanyer

City of Darwin advises that kerbside recycling collection services in Lyons and Leanyer may be temporarily delayed on Thursday 1 May and Friday 2 May 2025.

Residents are requested to leave their yellow-lid recycling bins on the verge. Collection crews will be working after hours and any streets not serviced will be prioritised for collection on Friday morning.

To assist, please ensure bins remain out until close of business Friday.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to complete all scheduled collections.

Changes to Library access and book drop

Construction of the new Civic Centre building will soon commence. The current Civic Centre carpark and nearby entrance will be closed from Monday 28 April and remain closed while works take place. The City Library will remain open and will be accessible from the Civic Centre Customer Services’ entry near Civic Park.

Please note that the City Library returns chute will be temporarily unavailable. A new Book Drop will be installed at the Cavenagh St side of the Civic Centre soon.

We kindly ask all customers to:

  • return items inside the Library during opening hours, or
  • use one of the 24/7 return chutes located at Casuarina, Nightcliff or Karama libraries.

For more information about the project, please go here.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

City of Darwin’s new $26.8 million Casuarina Aquatic & Leisure Centre is now open, providing a modern, family-friendly facility for the whole community to enjoy.

The new world-class community facility has 3 pools for all ages and abilities, including an 8 lane, 50-metre pool, a temperature-controlled, 6 lane 25-metre pool and a resort-style lagoon pool featuring an aqua tower, fountains and water squirts.

If you don’t want to get wet, the centre also has a large grassed area, basketball half-court and a dry play area featuring a unique sensory dome which is the first of its kind in the Northern Territory.

Design of the aquatic centre meets recognised best practice in pool design by including maximum accessibility options, including zero-depth access to all pools and equal access to amenities, buildings, playgrounds and open play and recreation areas.

The Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre is City of Darwin’s flagship infrastructure project and realises the Council’s goal of developing a capital city with best practice and sustainable infrastructure.

The facility was jointly funded by City of Darwin who contributed $19.3 million and the Federal Government who contributed $7.5 million.

The facility is set to provide exciting new business opportunities for locals in the area, with 3 new tenancies available. City of Darwin is working to fill the spaces with businesses that will support the offerings at the centre, including a cafe, allied health services, and gym.

The Y Northern Territory (YNT) manages City of Darwin's pools on Council's behalf, including all bookings and staff.  Please contact the pool directly for any booking enquiries.
