Changes to Library access and book drop

Construction of the new Civic Centre building will soon commence. The current Civic Centre carpark and nearby entrance will be closed from Monday 28 April and remain closed while works take place. The City Library will remain open and will be accessible from the Civic Centre Customer Services’ entry near Civic Park.

Please note that the City Library returns chute will be temporarily unavailable. A new Book Drop will be installed at the Cavenagh St side of the Civic Centre soon.

We kindly ask all customers to:

  • return items inside the Library during opening hours, or
  • use one of the 24/7 return chutes located at Casuarina, Nightcliff or Karama libraries.

For more information about the project, please go here.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Important update: Calling all Darwin pet owners! Update your pet’s microchip now to keep them safe

Agriculture Victoria have advised that from 7 February 2025 Microchip Pet Registry company, HomeSafeID, is no longer licenced under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 to keep and maintain an animal microchip registry service.

If your pet’s microchip was registered with Home Safe ID, you need to transfer it to another database to ensure your pet remains traceable.

If your pet was microchipped by City of Darwin Officers, their microchip will be registered with Central Animal Records and the closure of the HomeSafe ID microchip registry will not affect you.

To check where your pet’s microchip is currently registered, visit www.petaddress.com.au and enter your pet’s microchip number.

Why this matters

City of Darwin relies on up-to-date microchip information to reunite lost pets with their owners. If we find a lost dog that isn’t registered with us, we check microchip databases to locate the owner. Learn more.

Pets are important members of the family and City of Darwin wants to contribute for exemplary pet and owner community members. The Council strives to ensure that pets, owners, and Darwin residents live together in safety and harmony in the Darwin community.
