Rest. Stop
Amina McConvell and Katy Moir’s collaboration is based on merging their visual arts practices, shared aesthetics and parallel creative interest in abstract art. Amina’s work deals with the language of geometric abstraction and geometric conceptualism. Katy’s work intersects a manipulated version of her architectural drawing style, with a colourful and playful aesthetic.
In this work Amina and Katy have fused the functionality of street furniture objects into a sculptural installation that serves as a three-dimensional backdrop for a mural painting that responds to the theme of ‘interconnectedness’.
Their artwork uses geometric shapes and patterns to create colourful passages and places of connection for pedestrians. These resting places are optical artworks that manipulate relationships between two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, interior/exterior relationships of forms, colour placement, and sightlines between objects.
Amina and Katy’s collaborative dialogue converged through an exchange of creativity. The artists consider the compositional components of objects in space from complementary perspectives. Katy from an architectural and installation design background, and Amina as a visual artist working predominantly with abstract painting and installation. This exploration of interconnectedness reflects the complexities of connections found in nature, where geometry is a language that articulates the complexity of patterns and interconnected structures.
