Using a Disability Parking Permit in Darwin City
Vehicles displaying a valid disability parking permit may receive parking benefits in some City of Darwin parking areas. Rules differ depending on where you park.
On-street Disability Parking Bays
- Designated disability parking bays are free of charge.
- The maximum parking time shown on the sign still applies.
- Extra time allowances under the Australian Road Rules do not apply in designated disability parking bays.
Example:
If a disability parking bay sign allows 3 hours, the vehicle can stay for a maximum of 3 hours.
Off-street Disability Parking Bays (Car Parks)
Vehicles displaying a valid disability parking permit may park in designated disability bays in City of Darwin off-street car parks:
- Free of charge all day, except:
- West Lane Car Park
- Dragonfly Car Park
At West Lane Car Park and Dragonfly Car Park:
- A valid disability parking permit allows parking for twice the paid parking time in an accessible bay.
On-street Paid Parking Areas (Zone A & Zone B)
Vehicles displaying an eligible disability parking permit can park in Zone A and Zone B paid parking bays:
- Without paying for parking
- For the permitted time shown on the parking sign
- Including any additional time allowed under the Australian Road Rules

On-street Paid Parking Areas (Zone C)
Vehicles displaying an eligible disability parking permit must:
- Pay for parking while parked in Zone C areas
- Pay for the full parking period, including any additional time allowed under the Australian Road Rules

Travelling interstate
Disability parking permits are valid when travelling within Australia.
- Check with local authorities about concession entitlements, which may differ from City of Darwin
- Disability parking permits are transferable from vehicle to vehicle whenever the permit holder requires parking consideration.
