Types of Waste

Where do I go to dispose of my domestic waste?

The below list of accepted waste includes the location within Shoal Bay for domestic waste disposal: Reviva Reuse Shop, white goods area, Green Waste Mulch or the Transfer Station. Please note that commercial wastes are not permitted at the transfer station.

General Waste

The Transfer Station at Shoal Bay will accept General Waste.

Cardboard

The Transfer Station at Shoal Bay will accept Cardboard.

Scrap Metal

The Transfer Station at Shoal Bay will accept Scrap Metal.

E-Waste

• light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
• car batteries*
• mobile phones
• household batteries
• working electronics (TVs, radios, speakers, tablets, clocks, computers, printers, mouse and keyboards)
• working power tools and hardware, including solar panels

Reviva Reuse Shop may accept reusable second-hand electronics that can be resold. Test & Tag will be conducted on all electrical items accepted here.

If items aren't appropriate for Reviva, these items can be taken through to the Transfer Station. 

*Regular car batteries only. Hybrid car batteries not accepted. Hybrid car batteries must be returned to the car manufacturer for disposal.

Please note that commercial battery waste and large batteries are not accepted at Shoal Bay.

Hazardous Waste

The Transfer Station can accept some Hazardous Waste.

Soil and Asbestos are considered potentially hazardous. To dispose of Soil or Asbestos an application must be filled out before disposing at Shoal Bay facilities.

Please note that commercial gas bottles, oil or paint are not accepted at Shoal Bay.

^~Oil and Paint only. Up to 10 litres. 

Green Waste

• palm fronds
• shrubs
• small tree prunings
• lawn clippings
• tree stumps (up to 120cm long in 20cm in diameter)

The Green Waste Mulch area will accept Green Waste.

Soil is not accepted at Shoal Bay Mulch. Soil and Asbestos are considered potentially hazardous. To dispose of Soil or Asbestos an application must be filled out before disposing at Shoal Bay facilities.

Whitegoods

• fridges
• freezers
• washing machines
• dishwashers
• microwaves
• aircons

Whitegoods can be dropped off at the designated area next to the Education Centre. 

Reusable Items

• Furniture
  • chairs, sofas and couches
  • tables (dining, coffee, side tables)
  • dressers, bookshelves and cabinets
  • bed frames and headboards
  • office furniture (desks and filing cabinets)
  • storage bins or baskets

 

• Household Goods
  • kitchenware (pots, pans, plates, bowls and utensils)
  • glassware, mugs and cups
  • working kitchen appliances (toasters, blenders, coffee makers and microwaves) – Test & Tag will be conducted on all electrical items
  • bedding (blankets, comforters and pillows – must be stain-free)
  • towels and linens – must be stain-free
  • decorative items (vases, lamps and art pieces)

 

• Clothing and Accessories
  • clean and unripped clothing – all seasons and all ages accepted
  • shoes and boots
  • handbags, purses and wallets
  • scarves, belts and hats
  • jewellery (worn or vintage)

• Books and Media
  • books (novels, cookbooks and children's books)

• Sporting Goods and Outdoor Items
  • Bikes, scooters and skateboards including electrics
  • Camping gear (tents, sleeping bags and backpacks)
  • Exercise equipment (weights, yoga mats and treadmills)

  • Sports equipment (balls, gloves and rackets)

Reusable items can be taken to the Reviva Reuse Shop.

Anything not accepted at Reviva can be taken to the Transfer Station.

 

Home Improvement Items

• Paint, wallpaper and paint supplies
• Light fixtures
• Flooring materials (tiles and rugs)
• Plumbing and electrical supplies
• Pavers, bricks and blocks
• Gardening equipment

Reusable/recyclable home improvement items can be taken to Reviva Reuse Shop, otherwise they need to be taken to the Transfer Station.

Home renovations waste will incur a fee and must be taken to the Transfer Station via the weighbridge.
