Saltwater
The Saltwater people’s songlines and lore are deeply tied to coastal environments. Key animals such as the Danggalaba (crocodile) and Damibila (barramundi) carry important cultural meaning, representing sustenance, identity and an enduring connection to Country.
The artist’s Saltwater artworks were adapted for a series of light pole, amenity block and irrigation tank wraps. Her work celebrates the deep, living connection between people, land and sea.
Meet the Artist
Artist Cyan Sue-Lee, of Larrakia, Wardaman and Karajarri heritage, draws inspiration from her family and her deep connection to Country. Her work shares the story of the Saltwater people - the Traditional Owners whose lives, culture and identity are intrinsically tied to the sea and waterways.
