City of Darwin is monitoring advice from the Northern Territory Government and Federal Government biosecurity authorities following recent detections of avian influenza (bird flu) in wild birds in South Australia, Western Australia and New South Wales (NSW).
While there are currently no confirmed detections in Northern Territory’s, Darwin is home to a diverse range of bird species and is located along important migratory bird pathways which means community awareness and early reporting play an important role in protecting local wildlife.
Early detection is important in managing the spread of the virus and protecting Darwin’s bird populations and natural environment.
Thank you for helping protect Northern Territory’s wildlife and environment, birds and pets
