Procurement is the strategic process of acquiring goods, services, or works in a way that achieves value for money, complies with policies and procedures, and supports organisational objectives.
City of Darwin procures a diverse range of goods, services, and works to support its operational and strategic objectives. Procurement requirements range from the construction and maintenance of roads, footpaths, recreational and community facilities, and landscaping assets to the acquisition of heavy vehicles, office equipment, professional services, and other resources necessary for the effective delivery of Council services.
City of Darwin applies structured procurement policy and procedures focusing on the following basic principles of procurement:

- Renewing City of Darwin’s Commitment to Climate Action.
City of Darwin releases procurement opportunities through the TenderLink e-tendering portal. Potential tenderers are able to access the portal to view advertised opportunities, obtain procurement documentation, submit offers electronically, and participate in the procurement process in a secure and transparent manner.
In accordance with City of Darwin policy and the applicable local government procurement exemptions, City of Darwin may procure goods and services through approved procurement arrangements and purchasing panels, including Local Buy, where permitted. City of Darwin is authorised to utilise Local Buy arrangements as an exempt procurement mechanism.
