Councillor Bouhoris was inspired to stand for election to the City of Darwin after leading a successful community campaign in 2016 to have Mazlin Park upgraded.
He is Darwin bred and attended Tiwi Primary School, Dripstone High School and Casuarina Secondary College. He has played and coached many sports, including soccer and martial arts, and has a great love for motorsports and the Darwin nightlife.
Councillor Bouhoris, who is the works program coordinator for Power Water Corporation, has a diploma of business and a Certificate IV in Building. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has been an electrician for 25 years.
One of his primary drivers is to implement a permanent yearly beautification program outside of the CBD. He supports programs that create safer streets, improves amenities and community facilities, and smarter designs of public spaces.
He has the vision to make Darwin a “fitness lifestyle precinct”, including more outdoor gyms, better cycling infrastructure and improved council-subsidised health activity programs for all ages.
Councillor Bouhoris has driven several council initiatives, including the introduction of electric scooters in the CBD, East Point’s street workout gym, Lyons Park basketball/netball court and various park upgrades, including the new soccer goals at Wanguri oval. He is now working on Casuarina swimming pool being developed into a family-friendly aquatic centre and facilitating conversations for more music/cultural/sporting festivals to come to Darwin.
