Councillor Jimmy Bouhoris
Councillor Jimmy Bouhoris is a dedicated and community-focused City of Darwin Councillor who has proudly represented the northern suburbs for the past eight years. His journey in local government began in 2016, when he led a successful grassroots campaign to upgrade Mazlin Park — an experience that sparked his passion for public service and reinforced his belief that strong communities are built by locals who take initiative.
Raised in Darwin’s northern suburbs, Councillor Bouhoris has lived in the area for over 45 years. He attended Tiwi Primary School, Dripstone High School and Casuarina Secondary College. As a husband, father of five, and proud grandfather, he understands the importance of creating safe, inclusive neighbourhoods for families. His strong community ties are reflected in his lifelong involvement in local sport, martial arts, motorsports, and Darwin’s vibrant cultural nightlife.
Professionally, Councillor Bouhoris brings over three decades of experience as an A Grade electrician and currently works as the Project Control and Stakeholder Manager for the $40 million Territory Dispatch Engine (TDE) project with Power and Water Corporation. He holds a Diploma of Business, a Certificate IV in Building, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors - qualifications that underpin his practical, solution-driven approach to Council governance.
Councillor Bouhoris’ priorities include strengthening community groups, enhancing local facilities, developing cooler public spaces, and promoting active transport and outdoor recreation to position Darwin as a “fitness lifestyle precinct.” He remains focused on delivering strategic infrastructure and better value for ratepayers. Looking ahead, he will continue to advocate for a Return on Investment approach in Council decisions, advance the Sporting Ovals Masterplan, secure year-round heating at Casuarina Aquatic Centre, support the duplication of Lee Point Road, oversee the Civic Centre redevelopment, and deliver a centralised events platform to boost community engagement and tourism.
