Darwin’s laneways and small streets traditionally function as service spaces. However, there is an opportunity to reimagine these spaces through the delivery of diverse and creative initiatives.
Activation of these spaces has the potential to increase public amenity, support local businesses and create an attractive and vibrant urban environment for the Darwin community.
This guide has been developed to assist with the implementation of a variety of activities in laneways and small streets. No matter what activity you are considering, this guide will lead you towards information that will assist you in your endeavour.
Approval is necessary for most activities conducted on City of Darwin land. An application should be submitted and supporting documentation is often necessary. It is advisable to contact our team to discuss your idea prior to applying. We will be able to guide you through the process and provide information on venues, services, and availability. Call 8930 0777 or email email@example.com to get started.
Laneways and small streets can add a uniqueness to events not found at other venues. Everything from music gigs to markets take on a new vibe and appeal when tucked away is these intimate spaces. The types of events and activities is only limited by your imagination. City of Darwin has Event Planning Guidelines that will assist you with planning. If you’re not organising events regularly these guidelines are a helpful guide to the key components of event planning.
