City of Darwin is thrilled to welcome the Australian Dolphins Swim Team to Parap Pool this July for a community celebration like no other.
On Saturday 19 July from 8:00 to 10:00 am, Darwin locals are invited to the Australian Dolphins Pool Party for a rare opportunity to meet and mingle with some of the world’s best swimmers, including world record holder Kaylee McKeown, Olympic champion Mollie O’Callaghan, and elite swimmers Elijah Winnington and Kyle Chalmers.
This free community event will feature an open training session with the Australian Dolphins, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at elite training. Attendees will have the chance to get selfies, autographs and even swimming tips from their heroes.
City of Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis expressed pride in welcoming the Dolphins to Darwin and in celebrating their visit with the community at Parap Pool.
“We are honoured to welcome the Australian Dolphins Swim Team to Darwin and to celebrate their time here with this special community event at Parap Pool,” said Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis.
“It’s not every day you get to meet Olympic champions, and this event is a fantastic way for our community to connect with world-class athletes, right here at our local facility. Their presence brings energy, inspiration, and pride to Darwin.”
The Dolphin’s Pool Party is a thank you from the team to the Darwin community for their warm welcome and support during their training visit. The Dolphins will be training at the Parap Pool in preparation for the 2025 World Championship in Singapore.
Dolphins head coach Rohan Taylor explained “The location is a short drop into Singapore, the climate is perfect for our preparation and Darwin - with the support of City of Darwin, the Territory Government and the Federal Government, has become a premium high-performance destination.”
"And for us, it is also an opportunity to engage and connect with the local community and hopefully we can inspire dreams and showcase the pathway of becoming a Dolphin. "We have started our runway into the LA Olympics and to be great in LA this very young team is going to learn what is needed on the global stage in Singapore, and the journey has started here in the Top End."
The event also comes as Swimming NT prepares to break ground on the new dry-land training facility at Parap Pool, with construction set to begin soon. The facility will provide a dedicated space for training, recovery, meeting, and the storage of equipment to support the needs of professional athletes.
