Great news if you love a latte as you watch the sunrise or are keen to feast on fish and chips under a famous Darwin sunset; City of Darwin is gearing up for the next street food season with the opening of expressions of interest for vendors.
Street food businesses can apply for a permit to operate in some of Darwin’s most iconic outdoor locations, performances and events, allowing locals and visitors alike to grab a meal, snack or coffee while enjoying the city’s vibrant tropical lifestyle.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said Darwin was known for its tantalising street food, to be enjoyed in some of the most iconic locations in Darwin.
“From fantastic Filipino food to a cheeky churros, there really is something for everyone at any time of the year,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“There is nothing like food to bring people together, and the aim of our Street Food Program is to activate public places, enhance outdoor activity and stimulate the economy,” he said.
City of Darwin has recently made a number of enhancements to the program to provide equal opportunity and support long-term success for vendors.
New vendors can enter the program through a one-month trial permit to test market viability, refine product offerings, and identify suitable trading locations before committing longer-term.
The street food season commences on Monday 1 April 2024 and concludes on Monday 31 March 2025.
Expressions of interest close Thursday 29 February 2024.
