For the next two weeks dropping off green waste will be free for most commercial vehicles as well as for residents.
City of Darwin is offering a moratorium on commercial rates for domestic green waste disposal at the Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility for volunteer-driven vehicles and light trucks up to and including 4.5 tonnes (gross vehicle mass).
This is to ensure those members of the community that are assisting to remove green waste from private properties and residential streets can continue to provide important volunteer support to members of the community that are not able to manage their green waste on their own.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis applauds the efforts of those helping others during and after the Cyclone.
"Our community spirit is strong and we’ve seen the best in so many people helping out neighbours, friends and elderly residents to clear post-cyclone green waste," said the Lord Mayor.
The moratorium on commercial rates will run for two weeks up to Easter Monday, 2 April 2018.
Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility users will be required to provide information about the origin of the green waste being disposed of. This will assist City of Darwin to monitor the recovery response.
City of Darwin may be able to offer you a refund*Â if you've paid a fee for green waste disposal whilst volunteering your services post Cyclone Marcus.
