If you're thinking about purchasing an electric vehicle (EV), now could be an excellent time thanks to the Northern Territory Government's EV Charger Grants Scheme.
Residents who own an electric vehicle can apply for funding to buy and install a charger at their residential property or business.
Through the NT Grants EV Charger Grants Scheme, grants are available of up to:
- $1,000 for a residential property
- $2,500 for a business.
Why is this important?
By 2040, City of Darwin aims to assist the community in achieving net-zero greenhouse gases, and EV's play a vital role in that vision.
Earlier this year we added two new EV's to our fleet, and partnered with Evie Networks to install two fast charging stations in our Mitchell Street off-street carpark.
But with the Australian EV industry still in its early stages, a lack of public and convenient fast-charging stations is a challenge.
City of Darwin supports the adoption of EV's as cleaner and greener transport options, and this excellent initiative from NTG supports the community and our city's goal to accelerate the amount of charging infrastructure in Darwin.
Don't take it from us, Emma is one such successful applicant!
Emma Smith, City of Darwin Coordinator Environment and Climate Change says the grants are a fantastic scheme.
"We installed a charger at our home for our Tesla. It cost $1300 for an electrician to install it and we got $1000 back through those grants!
My EV is the best car I've ever owned."
"It's also great for businesses, they might want to install one if their customers will be staying awhile, such as restaurants, gyms, pools or hotels. It would be terrific to see more charging stations around our city."
