Darwin’s vibrant street food scene is set to sizzle once again, with City of Darwin opening expressions of interest for the next Street Food Program season.
Street food has become a much-loved part of Darwin’s lifestyle, offering diverse options for residents and visitors while bringing life and energy to public spaces across the city.
Expressions of interest are open until Sunday 28 February, with successful vendors starting trade from 1 April 2026.
Aspiring entrepreneurs can choose to take part through a one-month trial permit, giving them the opportunity to test the market before committing to a long-term permit.
Lord Mayor Peter Styles said the program offers more than just food.
“Darwin’s street food scene is a place where the community comes together, and where local businesses and entrepreneurs can showcase their culture and culinary talent,” he said.
By bringing food, culture, and energy into the city’s public spaces, the Street Food Program helps deliver the vision of Darwin’s Economic Development Strategy 2030 and Place and Liveability Plan 2050.
“The program also provides vendors access to some of Darwin’s most popular outdoor locations, helping them grow their customer base while offering a range of affordable dining options for residents and visitors,” he said.
Mr Styles encourages vendors to get involved adding, “it’s a unique chance to connect with the community and be part of what makes Darwin a vibrant and thriving city”.
The Street Food season runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.
