City of Darwin is pleased to be a sponsor of Double Exposure, a new outdoor projection exhibition taking place as part of the 2025 Darwin Street Art Festival on Saturday 14 June in Austin Lane.
A large-scale installation, Double Exposure is set to transform the city into a vibrant night-time gallery for one night only.
In the lead up, the festival will offer free workshops for emerging digital artists to translate their artworks for use in the Double Exposure exhibition, developed in consultation with City of Darwin’s LAUNCH youth program.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the workshops provided a great opportunity for young artists to translate their artworks into large digital formats for the exhibition.
“We are pleased to work with the Darwin Street Art Festival to support these workshops for artists up to 25 years old,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“Double Exposure is an exciting new part of the Darwin Street Art Festival which will see the old RSL Block, located at 27 Cavenagh Street and accessible from Austin Lane, transformed through projected artworks.
“The existing large-scale murals in the lane will be activated and there will be an immersive two-storey cube installed which will showcase film, photography and digital art.
“The workshops and Double Exposure are sponsored through City of Darwin’s Creative Strategy 2024 - 2030, which aims to support creative people across the municipality and to maximise opportunities for artistic organisations, events and audiences,” he said.
City of Darwin has worked with the Darwin Street Art Festival on the workshop content, which has been tailored to include specific interests and skillsets of local young artists.
The workshops for emerging young digital creatives will focus on augmenting and up scaling existing digital works, including options for co-creation for projection art formatting, as well as experimenting with mapping tools and final projected artworks.
Double Exposure takes place on Saturday 14 June between 7pm and 10pm at the RSL Block, located at 27 Cavenagh Street and accessible from Austin Lane. Entry is free and food and refreshments will be available.
The Darwin Street Art Festival is delivered by Proper Creative and is one of the longest running street art festivals in Australia. The festival takes place annually during May and June sees up to 20 new murals added to Darwin's streets and laneways every year.
