
City of Darwin is inviting residents who are passionate about their community to consider nominating themselves for the 2025 Local Government Elections.
Whether your interest lies in advocating for better infrastructure, championing sustainability, or helping address social issues, becoming an Elected Member is your opportunity to create positive change and contribute to a stronger, more inclusive city.
Nominations open on Friday 11 July 2025 and close at 12:00 pm on Thursday 31 July 2025.
To support those interested, a candidate information session will be held on Tuesday 15 July 2025 at 4:30 pm at the Civic Centre, Harry Chan Avenue, Darwin. This session is open to anyone considering nominating themselves to become an Elected Member.
There are 12 Elected Member positions available (three in each of the four Wards): Chan, Lyons, Richardson and Waters. The position of Lord Mayor will also be up for election, offering a unique opportunity for leadership at the highest level of Council.

Remember, voting in Northern Territory Local Government elections is compulsory. If you don’t vote and don’t have a valid reason, you may receive a fine as outlined in the Local Government Act.
