The Youth Advisory Committee is a dedicated group of young people who provide advice to council about making Darwin a more youth-friendly city.
The committee acts as a reference group for local government related youth issues and also hosts activities such as development workshops for young people and an annual Youth Strategy Co-Design Day. If you're looking for a way to get more involved in the community, build your confidence or want to develop your communication, leadership or advocacy skills, YAC might be for you!
Membership of the Youth Advisory Committee is open to 12-25 year olds who live within the Darwin municipality.
The process for joining YAC is –
- Fill out the expression of interest form (below)
- We’ll be in touch and invite you to attend a meeting as an observer
- If you like your experience, fill out an application form or have a short interview – whichever you prefer
- YAC members vote on your membership – don’t worry, they’ve never said no yet!
- If you are voted onto YAC your membership then goes to Council to be endorsed
There are 4-8 meetings a year with most meetings held on Thursday evenings from 5.30-7.00pm.
Applications for membership can be made at any time during the year
