Intersection Upgrade - Smith Street and Harriet Place, Darwin
City of Darwin wishes to advise that we will be upgrading intersection of Smith Street and Harriet Place to address road safety concerns.
These works are funded by the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, and City of Darwin is delivering the project. This project aims to improve road safety by targeting locations with a history of crashes and implementing design improvements to mitigate potential hazards.
Construction works are scheduled to be undertaken the week commencing Monday 15 June 2026 and will be undertaken at night to minimise impacts on nearby businesses.
The planned works include:
• Installing a right-turn lane from Smith Street onto Harriet Place.
• Installing a large painted median island.
The major contributing factor for vehicle accidents in this area is the poor sightlines from vehicles turning from Harriet Place and the nearby off-street carpark, onto Smith Street. To improve visibility for turning drivers, seven parking spots on the street will be removed.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we deliver this important project.
These works are shown on map below.
