Changes to Library access and book drop

Construction of the new Civic Centre building will soon commence. The current Civic Centre carpark and nearby entrance will be closed from Monday 28 April and remain closed while works take place. The City Library will remain open and will be accessible from the Civic Centre Customer Services’ entry near Civic Park. 

Please note that the City Library returns chute will be temporarily unavailable. A new Book Drop will be installed at the Cavenagh St side of the Civic Centre soon. 

We kindly ask all customers to:

  • return items inside the Library during opening hours, or
  • use one of the 24/7 return chutes located at Casuarina, Nightcliff or Karama libraries.

Juliet Shields Park Playground Revitalisation - Moore Street, Muirhead - Completed April 2025

City of Darwin wishes to advise that we will be undertaking the removal and replacement of the old Softfall with new rubberised Softfall at Juliet Shields Park Playground. This project aims to improve the safety and accessibility for the children playing in the playground. 

The works are scheduled to begin on Monday 7 April 2025, and are expected to be completed by Friday 11 April 2025, weather permitting. 

The playground will be closed to the public for approximately five days from commencement whilst works are completed.

Traffic control devices will be in place for the duration of the project to ensure public safety while the works are being undertaken with minor impacts to parking and pedestrian walkways.

Our contractor will be machinery, which may result in some noise disturbances throughout the construction period. However, we have made every effort to schedule the works to minimize disturbances.

Thank you for your patience and consideration while we deliver this important project for the community.
