City Maintenance
Mangroves have established and grown along the Lake Alexander shoreline resulting in a reduction of sandy beach area available for water access. The mangroves also obstruct visibility of the water, and passive surveillance of the parkland on the opposite (east) side of the lake.
Removal and trimming/thinning of the mangrove will improve user experience of the lake for recreation, water safety and reducing antisocial behaviour on the opposite side of the lake.
Works are expected to commence mid January 2024 and will be rolled out periodically over several weeks.
While the lake will remain open, small sections may be temporarily closed with minimal obstructions for users of the lake.
