Changes to Library access and book drop

Construction of the new Civic Centre building will soon commence. The current Civic Centre carpark and nearby entrance will be closed from Monday 28 April and remain closed while works take place. The City Library will remain open and will be accessible from the Civic Centre Customer Services’ entry near Civic Park. 

Please note that the City Library returns chute will be temporarily unavailable. A new Book Drop will be installed at the Cavenagh St side of the Civic Centre soon. 

We kindly ask all customers to:

  • return items inside the Library during opening hours, or
  • use one of the 24/7 return chutes located at Casuarina, Nightcliff or Karama libraries.

Nightcliff Village Masterplan - Streetscape Beautification Stage 1 - Completed November 2024

City of Darwin advises that installation of the bin screening feature and reconstruction of the East Laneway is now complete.

This project aims to create a vibrant, inviting hub for everyone to enjoy—day and night. Thanks to community consultation in May 2023, we’ve addressed key community concerns with these improvements:

  • Improved pedestrian access
  • Newly planted trees
  • New lighting
  • Enhanced concrete finishes
  • Upgraded stormwater drains
  • Increased security measures

Local artist Sina O’Keeffe’s stunning artwork now decorates waste storage screens, and her designs will expand to footpaths, drainage grates, lighting frames, deck risers, concrete seats, and backrests in future stages.

Funded by the NT Government’s Immediate Priority Grants Program and City of Darwin’s Better Suburbs Program, this project is a key outcome of the Nightcliff Village Master Plan.

From improving infrastructure to adding new greenery to the area, these developments are designed with the community in mind and your feedback has been invaluable in shaping these plans.
