Road works - Aralia Street and Banksia Street Roundabout, Nightcliff
City of Darwin is reconstructing the road pavement, roundabout and traffic islands at the intersection of Aralia Street and Banksia Street, Nightcliff. The existing infrastructure has reached the end of its service life and the pavement at this intersection has experienced previous failures.
The reconstruction will renew deteriorated pavement, improve the condition of the intersection and extend the life of this important piece of infrastructure.
The Aralia Street and Banksia Street Intersection Pavement Remediation Project is identified in the 2026/27 Municipal Plan. The project forms part of City of Darwin's 2026/27 Road Reconstruction Program, three projects with a combined investment of $4.45 million.
Investment in road renewal helps reduce the need for reactive maintenance and supports a reliable and well-maintained road network for the community.
Construction timeline
Start date: Week commencing 21 September 2026
Expected completion: Late November 2026 (weather permitting)
Works will be carried out between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Saturday.
Intersection Closure
The Banksia Street and Aralia Street intersection will be closed. Local traffic will be permitted to access properties, with detours in place. Residents are encouraged to allow additional travel time and follow directional signage.
Property Access
Access to residential properties will be maintained throughout construction. City of Darwin and its contractor will work closely with affected residents to minimise disruption wherever possible.
Sunset Park Access
During construction, parking for Sunset Park will only be accessible via Nightcliff Jetty carpark.
Waste Collection Services
There will be no changes to waste collection services during the construction period. Residents will continue to present bins for collection as normal. Residents will be notified in advance if temporary changes to collection arrangements are required
Construction Activities
Construction machinery and equipment will be required to complete the works, noise, dust and vibration may be experienced during the project.
Every effort has been made to schedule and manage construction activities to minimise impacts on nearby residents and businesses.
City of Darwin recognises these works will cause disruption for people who live, work and travel through the area and thanks the community for their patience and cooperation while the works are undertaken.
