City of Darwin has installed a ‘Smart Bench/Shelter’ at the Nightcliff Pool, 259 Casuarina Drive, Nightcliff for a trial period of 6 month and was installed on 30th June 2022. The success of the smart bench will be considered following the trial period.

The Smart Bench is approximately 2.3 metres high by 2.8 metres wide and is best described as shaded urban furniture that provides comfort, connectivity, and convenience to the community.

The Smart Bench includes Solar-Powered features:

• LED lighting
• USB and QI- Wireless charging stations
• Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Smart Bench is prefabricated and took less an week to install, and no trees or vegetation was removed and installation utilised an existing concrete slab. The bench hosts a Wi-Fi hotspot and no personal information is obtained while logged in.
