Speed Limit Changes – Nightcliff Road and Rapid Creek Road
City of Darwin wishes to advise that speed limits will be changing on Nightcliff Road and Rapid Creek Road from Monday 8 December 2025, to improve safety for all road users.
New Speed Limits:
- Nightcliff Road: Reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h
- Rapid Creek Road: Reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h
Please note that the existing 40 km/h school zone on Nightcliff Road will remain unchanged and continue to operate as usual.

These changes follow a comprehensive review conducted as part of City of Darwin Movement Strategy and Place and Liveability Plan 2050.
The review considered 85th percentile speeds, average daily traffic volumes, crash history, road geometry, heavy vehicle usage, presence of vulnerable road users. Both roads serve nearby schools and are adjacent to popular recreational areas.
Lowering the speed limits is expected to enhance safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.
