Tactile Ground Surface Indicator Installation – Nightcliff Foreshore, Casuarina Drive
City of Darwin wishes to advise that we will be installing Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSIs) on footpaths adjoining Nightcliff Jetty Car Park driveway, Foreshore Café driveway, and Nightcliff Swimming Pool driveway.
A kerb ramp will also be installed on the foreshore footpath adjoining the Nightcliff Jetty car park driveway, to match the one opposite. This will improve accessibility for wheelchair and prams users and cyclists.
These locations experience regular vehicle traffic intersecting with pedestrian routes, creating potential safety risks—particularly for people with visual impairments, mobility challenges, and older residents requiring accessible navigation support. Installing TGSIs will improve safety by clearly indicating where driveways meet footpaths.
This project is part of Council’s Access and Inclusion Program, which supports an inclusive, accessible, and connected community.
Construction
Works are scheduled to commence on Monday, 25 May 2026 and are expected to be completed within two weeks, weather permitting. Work hours are 7.00 am until 5.00pm.
Please refer to the map below, which indicates the work areas in red.
Car park and Parking
Car park will remain open; property and pedestrian access will be maintained. However, some parking in the vicinity of the work site will be temporarily restricted. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Traffic control measures will be in place throughout the project to ensure public safety.
Our contractor will use machinery to undertake the works, which will result in some noise during the construction period. Every effort has been made to schedule the works in a way that minimises disruption.
Thank you for your patience and consideration while we deliver these improvements for the community.
