The Smith Street Mall – Old Tree Pit Upgrade into Performance Deck
City of Darwin wishes to advise that we will be converting the old tree pit garden bed located in the Smith Street Mall, opposite to Hosking Jewellers, into a performance deck.
This new deck will feature a nonslip tile finish. Power will also be available at the location for public performers to use. The work aims to create a vibrant and versatile public performance area, enhancing the outdoor events held in the Smith Street Mall.
The works are expected to commence on Thursday 26 June 2025, completed in four weeks’ time, weather permitting.

Traffic control devices will be in place for the duration of the project to ensure public. Temporary fencing will be installed, and property and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project. Some important works may be performed during weekends, subject to project managers approval.
Our contractor will use machinery to perform the works, which will result in some noise disturbances throughout the construction period. However, we have made every effort to schedule the works to minimize disturbances.
