Public notice: road closures

Roads around the City of Darwin may be temporarily closed for major events or roadworks. This page is to inform the community of temporary road closures, providing information relevant to plan their commute or conduct business around the affected area/s.

City of Darwin make every effort during the permit process to minimise the impacts of road closures.

Thursday 23 July 2026 - From 3pm to 7.30pm Pitch Black 2026

To ensure the safe arrival and departure of all attendees, traffic management measures will be in place around the Mindil Beach precinct throughout the event.

Before You Arrive

  • Traffic management will be implemented from approximately 3:00 pm.
  • The Mindil Beach car park is expected to reach capacity early and will be closed once full.
  • Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and consider alternative transport options where possible.

Getting to the Event

Attendees are encouraged to:

  • Walk or cycle where practical.
  • Use taxis or rideshare services.
  • Utilise public transport where available.
  • Carpool to reduce congestion and parking demand.

Parking

  • Parking within the Mindil Beach precinct is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Once the car park reaches capacity, no further vehicle access will be permitted until it is safe to reopen.
  • Please follow the directions of traffic controllers and event staff at all times.

Traffic Changes

During peak arrival and departure periods:

  • Temporary traffic management and road changes will be in place on Gilruth Avenue, Gardens Road, Marina Liveris Drive, Casino Drive, Smith Street, and Chin Quan Avenue.
  • Some turning movements and access points may be temporarily restricted to assist with vehicle movements and pedestrian safety.
  • Traffic delays should be expected immediately before and after the event.

Leaving the Event

Following the event, traffic controllers will assist with the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians to help reduce congestion. Please allow extra travel time and follow all traffic management directions.

Plan Ahead

Before travelling:

  • Allow additional time for your journey.
  • Consider using alternative transport if possible.
  • Check the Pitch Black website and event social media channels for traffic updates and travel advice.
