Bundilla Beach is the ‘Paw’-fect location

Following community feedback, the Bundilla Beach area (formerly Vesteys Reserve), has been identified as the preferred location for a new Darwin City Dog Park.

Council received 359 surveys with more than 90 percent of responses in favour of a new dog park in or near to the Darwin City Centre.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said it was a close race between three of the five locations considered by the public.

“Gardens Park, Frog Hollows and Bundilla Beach were the top three favourites, but the Bundilla Beach area caters for a large residential population, providing excellent infrastructure with adequate parking, public toilets, drinking fountains, paths, BBQ and picnic tables, making it the ideal location for a new dog park.

“Once constructed, Darwin City will have three dog parks that the community can utilise, the others being at Lakeside Drive Alawa and Breezes Muirhead.”

After getting the go ahead from Council at the Council Meeting this week, the proposed dog park will be a consideration in the forthcoming 2021/22 Council budget.

As well as designated dog parks, all parks, ovals, reserves, gardens and beaches under Council’s care and control, are declared dog exercise areas, with the exception of East Point Reserve, Gardens Oval One and Nightcliff Oval.
