New Changing Places Toilet Facility - Bicentennial Park, Darwin City
City of Darwin wishes to advise that we will be replacing the toilet block located in Bicentennial Park near Peel Street with a new, purpose-built toilet facility, which will include:
- One accessible toilet
- One Changing Places facility
Changing Places facilities provide a larger, safer and more dignified environment for people with high support needs. They include specialised equipment such as hoists, adult sized change tables and extra circulation space. This upgrade will significantly improve accessibility for people with disabilities, families and carers and supports our vision for a more inclusive, welcoming city for everyone.
These improvements reflect City of Darwin’s ongoing investment in high quality public spaces and will provide a long-term benefit to residents, visitors and the many community groups who regularly use Bicentennial Park.
Works are scheduled to commence on Monday 16 March 2026 and expected to be completed in approximately six weeks, weather permitting.

The toilet blocks will be closed for the duration of the works and alternate public restroom can be used at locations below:
- 48-50 Smith Street, Darwin CBD (off Austin Lane)
- 12 Smith Street, Darwin CBD (Civic Park)
Machinery will be used during construction, which may result in some noise disturbances. However, we have made every effort to schedule the works in a way that minimises disruption.
Traffic control measures will be in place throughout the project to ensure public safety, and some nearby parking in the vicinity of the job site may be temporarily restricted.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and we thank you for your patience and consideration while we deliver this important project for the community.
